Hello! And welcome to the Kids Law Podcast!
When our host, Alma-Constance, turned ten years old in February 2021, she found out that according to English law she could end up in court if she breaks the law. This was a real shock to her. Could she really become a criminal at age 10? And it got her thinking, what are the other laws that will affect her as she gets older? Does she have any rights about decisions in her life?
It’s a big topic, so she asked her friend Lucinda Acland, also a lawyer, about how laws affect what you can and can’t do. For example, the ages when you are allowed to do things by yourself, like earn money, learn to drive, vote, and even get married!
We’re going to tell you how laws are made, how they give you rights to make sure your voice is heard, and protect you from bullies or if you have difficulties at home.
In each monthly episode, we speak to people whose job it is to help and protect children, and ask them what we can do to keep safe and make good decisions about our lives.
